我跟 Opus 4.7 一起來回了好多次終於完成 deploy(感謝 AI 教我買網域跟環境佈署)——然後就上線了。
By day I’m a frontend engineer, so the most natural way for me to make this studio real is to deploy it.
20260527 — today, this studio had its first real address: earthscape-studio.com. After many back-and-forth rounds with Claude Opus 4.7, the deploy finally went through(thank you, AI, for teaching me how to buy a domain and stand up an environment). After that, it was just there.
Only a few prototype vases finished, two bisque pieces blown apart in the kiln — and yet the string earthscape-studio.com debuted first. It mirrors the rest of my life: the professional work gets done first, and then the testing, the curious, the artistic, the lived parts attach themselves to it and slowly grow out.
§ 01 · From a Google Sheet to a .com
For the past few years, every idea, glaze recipe, and series plan lived in tabs of a Google Sheet. A new tab each time something occurred to me — some made it into production, some died at the idea stage, most sat in indefinite pending.
I wanted a way to introduce myself, and to share what I’ve been thinking and making with the outside world — to present my view of beauty and of daily life through a physical object. For someone whose day job is frontend, the most direct form of introduction isn’t a portfolio PDF. It’s a deployed site.(I laughed when I noticed the logic.)
§ 02 · The name lands
The studio is called Earthscape — in Chinese, 埴角 (zhí jiǎo).
There was a shortlist — 土角, 陶逸, 陶岬 — but Earthscape stayed because the word holds four readings at once: earthscape (the landscape of earth), earth scape (the texture of earth), earth’s cape (the cape of clay), escape. Four things, all in the end the same thing — I unpack this in About.
The Chinese 埴角 was chosen for 「埴」 alone. It appears in the Dao De Jing line 「埏埴以為器,當其無,有器之用」 (“knead clay to form a vessel; it is the emptiness within that makes it useful”). The compound 埴角 is essentially absent from modern Chinese — which is precisely why I like it. No preset associations. A clean container to fill.
A name is a kind of 言靈 — a word-spirit. The moment Earthscape exists, the objects it should correspond to have to start existing too.
§ 03 · Day Zero
I didn’t touch clay today. No kneading, no shaping, no firing. But once that deploy button was pressed, this studio went from a thing of my own to a thing that can be known.
Starting this weekend, every piece that comes out of the kiln will get a number (ES · 2026 · CAPE-01 · …), logged, photographed, filed.
埴角 starts counting from today.
